Mulled Wine Spiced Apple Cider

mulled wine spiced apple cider

Well here`s the thing guys, there`s literally less than one week left for the beginning of the advent season and I believe it`s time to welcome this time of the year.
Unfortunately I still haven`t inaugurated Christmas baking season, typical me, every year I plan on starting in November, but don`t manage to. Have you already started making your Christmas baking goods? What creations have you planned this year?

OK, I`m losing focus...Where were we? Right, it`s time to say hello to the holy season. So what else do you associate with this time of the year? How about mulled wine? Nothing beats a hot mulled wine, especially if you`re strolling over the Christmas market on a cold winter afternoon and need something to warm you up. OK, there may be just one more thing...Namely a steaming apple cider after ice skating with your friends. So what is it for you, apple cider or mulled wine? Quiet a tough choice, n`est-ce pas?

But what would you say, if I told you, you don`t have to make a choice? Yes, you heard right, this time you can have it all, because today I`m presenting you the perfect fusion between mulled wine and apple cider. This non-alcoholic beverage based on apple juice contains all your favourite mulled wine flavours, well minus the wine. The juice fully absorbs the spices and brings out the best of their flavor. Just imagine an aromatic infusion of cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, limes and oranges.

What you need (for a jug, about 1 liter):
  • 1 liter apple juice or apple cider
  • 1 apple
  • 2 tablespoons mulled wine spice mixture*
  • 4 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 cinnamon stick, broken in half
  • 2 tablespoons honey

* I used a mixture bought in a pharmacy, which contains cardamom, cloves, as well as dried lemon and orange peels. But feel free to make your own mulled wine spice mixture.

  • turn down the heat on low, cover the pan and let simmer for 30 minutes
  • pour into a jug, serve immediately and consume hot
  • you can store your apple cider in a closed bottle up to 3 days in the fridge, just make sure to remove all the ingredients you used to infuse before storing.
